We strongly recommend that all players read through these rules carefully to avoid breaking any of them. We will not accept ignorance of these rules as a mitigating factor for the contravention of any of our rules and guidelines.

Please note that these rules are subject to change at any time, and the players may not be informed of any changes, if any.

Account Penalty Policy

Face of Mankind Game Masters are tasked with many support tasks, one of which is ensuring that our players have the best possible experience in Face of Mankind. We encourage ample player freedom and liberty to do as they wish to find their unique and personal character niche in Face of Mankind. However, it becomes necessary at times to take disciplinary action in the form of issuing penalties to the account of players who are deemed to be disruptive to the gameplay and enjoyment of other players. It is necessary to make decisions to mete out such disciplinary action at times to ensure that we fulfill our responsibility to our player base to ensure that gameplay for the majority of our players is as smooth as possible.

When issuing penalties, Face of Mankind Game Masters try as much as possible to issue the lightest possible account penalty. However, there will be situations where we will have to go beyond the lightest possible penalty after taking in careful account the overall severity of the offense, compounded with how often the player in question has violated our policies throughout his time with us. The exact length of a suspension for any given case will be at the Game Masters' discretion to decide, taking into account the above.

At times, players may wonder why they have been issued a penalty for something that may seem relatively innocuous to them. We must remind everyone that because Face of Mankind is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game, our playerbase is derived from players all around the globe. These players are likely to have come from very different backgrounds, and have similarly diverse personal experiences. As such, it is important to remember that what may seem harmless to one player may evoke a very different experience in another. Hence, the onus lies with the Face of Mankind Game Master Team to ensure that these players are not marginalized and suffer from a diminished gameplay experience as well.

There are a few types of account penalties that may be applied, and they are as follows:

Official Warnings
Official Warnings will be delivered in full to the e-mail address registered to a player's account. To ensure that a player knows that he has been issued an Official Warning, he will be notified by a Game Master via ingame mail. Official Warnings will be recorded against a player's account for future reference.

Mutes
Mutes are used in cases where the player is being disruptive via the in-game chat, but it is not deemed to be disruptive enough to where it is necessary to remove the player from the game for a specified time (account suspension).

Account Suspensions
Account suspensions are issued when a player has become disruptive enough that it is deemed necessary to remove them from the game for a period of time. These suspensions have a variance of length, which will be displayed to you in the email you receive should you acquire such a punishment.

Increasing penalties will typically be issued when a player repeats an offense for which he/she has already been given a warning for (both official and non-official). When such a penalty has been issued, it is a signal from the Face of Mankind Gamemaster Team that the actions for which the penalty has been issued are not considered minor. It should also be noted that such penalties are a means of stressing to a player that our policies must be followed. As noted above, these penalties will be issued taking into account the severity of the offense and the player's past history with regards to policy violations. This means that a player may be issued severe suspension even if he is a first-time offender, assuming the policy violation is severe enough.

Permanent Account Closure
The most severe of all punishments, this is only issued when a player has either broken several guidelines or they have performed an action that was an extreme disruption to the game. This would mean that your account will no longer have access to our systems. However, you will still have access to our support system.

Appealing Punishments
Once you are banned, we offer you the ability to appeal via our support system (http://support.faceofmankind.com/). You have 7 business days from the date of the ban to appeal else you will either have to wait out your ban, or appeal on or after a later specified date.

Note
Nexeon Technologies reserves any and all rights to judge every offense on a case-by-case basis, and to exercise our prerogative to issue penalties of any kind, ranging from warnings to permanent account closures based on our judgment.

Offensive Language and Harassment Policy

Being able to speak out freely and using language styles appropriate for the character they are roleplaying is something that we believe is part and parcel of the immersive roleplay experience in Face of Mankind. Whilst we encourage this under the auspices of player freedom as far as possible, there is a line that must be drawn that cannot be crossed by players regardless of the reasons, even if it is 'part of roleplay'. Such language will typically be construed as offensive and/or harassment, and Face of Mankind simply will neither condone nor accept such language being used ingame.This overview of our Offensive Language and Harassment Policy clarifies Face of Mankind's stance towards certain categories of violations. Whilst some violations are considered minor and may not even warrant an official warning, certain violations that we consider to be highly inappropriate may result in an immediate, but usually temporary account suspension. Repeated violations may also result in a permanent account closure.

Nexeon Technologies reserves all rights to evaluate every single report and act upon them on a case-by-case basis as we deem necessary. All such actions are for the purpose of ensuring that the majority of our players are able to enjoy a gameplay environment without being harassed, regardless of whether such language is directed at any specific group of people or not. Note that whilst Face of Mankind has a Swear Filter which can be activated by any player to protect themselves from such harassment or abuse, it is not an excuse at all for using offensive/harassing language ingame.

Our Swear Filter works by filtering inappropriate words in our database and replaces them with asterisks, (eg. ******)

The below list is not exhaustive, and there may be language which are considered offensive and/or inappropriate, but do not fall into any of the below categories. Hence, Face of Mankind Staff reserve all rights to evaluate and issue account penalties for each possible violation on a case-by-case basis. In extreme cases, Face of Mankind Staff also reserve all rights to take any action necessary beyond these prescriptions.

Finally, it is important to note that our Offensive Language and Harassment Policy is not limited to any one language; ie. cases of harassment/use of offensive language that are in a language other than English will be evaluated and judged exactly as if it was in English. Also, language 'not being offensive' to an individual or a group of people will not be considered a valid excuse for language that violates our policies. This is simply due to the fact that what may seem innocuous to one may be highly offensive to another, due to the diverse and varied backgrounds our players hail from.

The following categories are deemed to be Extremely Inappropriate, and will likely receive a severe form of account penalty, depending on the offense:

Extreme Sexual or Violent Content
National Hatred or Slurs
Racial/Ethnic Hatred or Slurs
Real-Life Information and Threats
Sexual Orientation

The following categories are deemed to be Moderately Inappropriate, and will likely receive a relatively mild to moderate account penalty depending on the offense:

Advertisements
General Inappropriateness
Harassment or Defamation
Illegal Activities
Obscene or Vulgar Content
Religions or Religious Figures
Spamming

The following categories are deemed to be at our discretion to issue account penalties as appropriate, taking into account the severity and duration of the offense.

Physical In-Game Harassment
Actions that fall under this category are inclusive of, but not limited to, abusing the faction tools without valid cause and/or beyond what would be considered acceptable in quantity. This is inclusive of but not limited to, 'trade spamming'; and filling another player's storage with junk. If possible, and if at all warranted, such physical harassment will be resolved by our game developers, Nexeon Technologies. However, until it is resolved, or if it cannot be resolved by development, Face of Mankind Staff will take any necessary action to prevent players from being harassed in this manner. Note that this does not include exploiting or abusing game mechanics or bugs; this will be handled more harshly under a different section of our policies.

Persistent Offensive Language/Harassment
We may also classify certain incidents as harassment, regardless of whether offensive language is used at all or not. In these cases, we judge the case based on the intent of a player in his actions. When a player deliberately persists in harassing another player or a group of players, regardless of whether it is verbal or physical, Face of Mankind Staff reserve all rights to impose account penalties where necessary. The objective of this category is to protect our players from being harassed for extended periods of time, regardless of the type and severity of the harassment involved.

IMPORTANT Repeatedly violating any of our policies, or the End User License Agreement, inclusive of but not limited to the above categories, will almost always result in a temporary account suspension.

Naming Policy

Choosing a unique and unforgettable name for their characters, groups and departments is an essential part of the immersive roleplay that a player may experience in Face of Mankind. We encourage this under the auspices of player freedom as far as possible, however there are certain types of character, group and department names that Face of Mankind simply cannot condone nor accept.
This naming policy clarifies Face of Mankind's stance towards certain categories of name violations and the penalties that may be issued in concordance with it; as well as describe what the various offenses entail in particular. Whilst some violations are considered minor and may not even warrant an official warning, the names we consider to be highly inappropriate may result in an immediate, but usually temporary account suspension. Repeated violations may also result in a permanent account closure.

Face of Mankind Game Masters will only assign a new character name to players who have violated the naming policy, and will not under any circumstance change character names for any other reasons. However, players who have been assigned a random name for their character will be sent an e-mail to the e-mail address registered to the relevant account with the instructions necessary to change his/her character name to one of their liking, provided it does not violate our naming policies again.

Please note that questionable names may not be edited immediately due to the need for further review.

The below list is not exhaustive, and there may be names which are considered offensive and/or inappropriate, but do not fall into any of the below categories. Hence, Face of Mankind Game Masters reserve all rights to evaluate and issue account penalties for each possible violation on a case-by-case basis. In extreme cases, Face of Mankind Game Masters also reserve all rights to take any action necessary beyond these prescriptions.

Finally, it is important to note that our naming policy is not limited to any one language; ie. cases of name violations that are in a language other than English will be evaluated and judged exactly as if it was in English. Also, a name 'not being offensive' to an individual or a group of people will not be considered a valid excuse for a name that violates our policies. This is simply due to the fact that what may seem innocuous to one may be highly offensive to another, due to the diverse and varied backgrounds our players hail from.

The following categories are deemed to be Extremely Inappropriate, and will likely receive a relatively severe account penalty (Account Suspensions) on the first offense:

Extreme Sexual or Violent Content
Obscene or Vulgar Content
Racial, Ethnic, and National Connotations
References to Sexual Orientation

The following categories are deemed to be Moderately Inappropriate, and will likely receive a relatively mild to moderate account penalty (Official Warning to limited Account Suspensions) on the first offense:

Advertisements
Face of Mankind Employees
General Inappropriateness
Harassment or Defamation

The following categories are deemed to be Mildly Inappropriate, and are unlikely to receive any account penalty on the first offence:

Licensed or Trademarked Content
Nonsensical
Partial or Complete Sentences, or Phrases
References to the Real World
Titles (Does not apply to Department or Group names, within reasonable bounds)
Impersonation

Nexeon Technologies reserves all right to evaluate every single name and act upon them on a case-by-case basis as we deem necessary. Even though you might think a name is offensive we can decide to allow the name anyway. If we allow one name this is not an excuse to create a new account with (parts of) the allowed name in it.

While playing Face of Mankind, it is likely that you will need to communicate with a Face of Mankind Game Master, Community Manager, or even a Developer for a variety of reasons. Face of Mankind Game Masters, Community Managers and Developers will only communicate with players via the following media:

Staff Interaction Policy

Once you have properly ascertained that the individual you are corresponding with is truly a member of the Face of Mankind Staff, it is important that you conduct yourself appropriately, regardless of how upset you may be about any given matter. Whilst we understand that you may have objections to decisions made by Face of Mankind Staff, our staff are entitled to protection from harassment and abusive language. Also, to allow our staff to carry out their jobs efficiently and properly, players are expected to cooperate fully and completely with them.

Note that violating the below rules regarding interactions with Face of Mankind Staff is considered severe to us, and the appropriate account penalties will be issued upon such violations.

GM.1 Impersonating Face of Mankind Staff
It is possible that you may encounter players that may attempt to take advantage of other players by claiming the authority of Face of Mankind Staff. Face of Mankind Staff will only engage in correspondence with players through the media described in full above, with the relevant identification and confirmation methods. In the event that you have been contacted or are in ongoing communications with an individual that is not via the abovementioned media, or cannot be confirmed by the abovementioned methods, the individual is not associated with Face of Mankind staff in any capacity. Such situations should be reported to Face of Mankind Staff through the legitimate channels as soon as possible so as to allow us to take the necessary action to halt such actions without further delay. Very serious action will be taken if such impersonation is found to be for the purposes for defrauding or scamming another player.

GM.2 Disobeying or Ignoring Instructions from Face of Mankind Staff
In the course of their duties, it may be necessary for Face of Mankind Staff to instruct a player to perform certain actions, or refrain from performing certain actions for one reason or another. Note that due to the sensitivity of certain issues, it may not always be possible for Face of Mankind Staff to inform players the reason behind these instructions. Suffice to say that instructions given by Face of Mankind Staff are always for the purpose of the preservation of an enjoyable atmosphere of gameplay for the majority of our players. Hence, the contravention of this specific clause of our Face of Mankind Staff Interaction Policy will almost certainly result in an account penalty, depending on the severity of the offense.

GM.3 Excessive use of Abusive Language
We understand that players communicating with Face of Mankind Staff may be upset or distraught over an issue or experience they may have had in Face of Mankind. However, our staff have the right to perform their duties without having to endure abusive language. Furthermore, the use of such abusive or offensive language, whether directed at the Face of Mankind Staff or other players, is entirely inappropriate and counter-productive. In such situations, a player will be given an unofficial warning to cease and desist. Upon refusal to do so, Face of Mankind Staff reserve all rights to issue an account penalty ranging from an Official Warning to Account Suspensions of varying lengths.

In the event that the abusive or offensive language is aimed directly at a member of the Face of Mankind Staff, our staff reserve all rights to issue an immediate account penalty without any prior warning, depending on the severity of the offense.

GM.4 Defrauding or Attempting to Defraud Face of Mankind Staff
Although we wish to believe that players provide information to the best of their ability all of the time, we acknowledge that there are situations where a player may intentionally attempt to withhold information which could incriminate him/herself or another player, in an attempt to protect them. Face of Mankind Staff reserve all rights to issue account penalties if such a situation is proven. Attempts to defraud Face of Mankind Staff are inclusive of, but not limited to, diverting a Game Master's attention from a situation that requires his/her attention with another non-existent situation; withholding information; providing false information; and any other action that may be construed as attempting to mislead Face of Mankind Staff.

GM.5 Harassing Face of Mankind Staff
There will be times when Face of Mankind Staff consider an issue closed, whether brought up by either the staff themselves, or by the player. When an issue has been considered closed, players are expected to abide by the decisions of the Face of Mankind Staff, barring extraordinary circumstances. If a player or group of players persists in harassing the Face of Mankind Staff with regards to any issue considered closed, they will be given an unofficial warning to cease and desist. Upon the failure of said players to cease their harassing behavior, Face of Mankind Staff reserve all rights to issue an account penalty ranging from an Official Warning to Account Suspensions of varying lengths.

IMPORTANT
Repeatedly violating any of our policies, or the End User License Agreement, inclusive of but not limited to the above categories, will almost always result in a temporary account suspension.

The Face of Mankind Staff will never demand that you reveal your account information (including your username or password), or instruct you to do anything that will compromise the contents of your account. It is very important that players are familiar with the above guidelines in their interactions with Face of Mankind Staff so as to avoid any situations where they may be defrauded by an individual impersonating our staff.

At times, the motives behind the instructions given by our staff may be unclear. However, there is always a valid justification for such instructions, except that our staff may be unable to reveal this justification for a varied range of reasons. You should always comply with the instruction first, and express your concerns or protests regarding the instructions to our support ticket system at support.fomportal.com.

Throughout the course of discharging their duties, Face of Mankind Staff will always take every possible action necessary to accord you the respect that you deserve as one of our valued customers. However, we still request that you accord our staff the same respect as they do not deserve to have to endure abuse and harassment in the line of duty. Face of Mankind Staff only issue account penalties when they are absolutely necessary to ensure that the majority of our players can enjoy their gameplay experience, and aim to resolve issues as quickly and painlessly as possible to allow the resumption of gameplay without any unnecessary delay.

Exploitation Policy

In the interest of ensuring that all Face of Mankind players can enjoy the game to the fullest extent possible, we have found it necessary to implement a policy to specifically forbid any activity which may give individuals an unfair advantage over players who play fairly and by the rules. Activities that have not been specifically intended through the design of the game can, and often severely detrimental to the enjoyment of the Face of Mankind gameplay by other players. Examples of such activity include but are not limited to unfair advantages in combat; unfair ownership of ingame items or currency; compromise the integrity and access to other players' game accounts;and decreased server performance and/or stability. Due to the extremely serious negative impact of such actions to the gameplay of other players and the property of Nexeon Technologies and its associates, we will respond to such offenses with severe prejudice; employing methods such as official warnings, account suspensions, and legal action depending on the severity of the offense. The Face of Mankind Support Team reserves all rights to evaluate each and every incident on a case-by-case basis, and take any action necessary to remedy the situation.

Ultimately, we are taking these steps which may seem draconian to preserve a gameplay environment that is most conducive for fun for all our players. Because of the nature of Face of Mankind, which is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, any actions that provide an unfair advantage for any individual will certainly result in a detrimental effect against the experience of other players. This is exacerbated by the fact that Face of Mankind is also a First/Third-Person Shooter with no restrictions against Player-versus-Player combat whatsoever, and hence any unfair advantages will make the game near unplayable for other players. Despite these policies, we earnestly hope that all players abide by the rules and help us to create and maintain a gameplay environment that is fun and enjoyable for all players in Face of Mankind. Thank you.

Note: This category is not limited to only players that personally breach the rules, but also include players that discuss, distribute, or share the means or knowledge to violate these rules.

We will judge whether actions can be considered abusive by taking into account whether:

  • the act gives the offending individual an unfair advantage over other players;
  • the act damages the account and/or character of another player in ways not intended by game mechanics;
  • the act is detrimental to another player's enjoyment of the gameplay in Face of Mankind;
  • the act harms Face of Mankind's economy;
  • if the act damages the provision of the game service itself.
The following sections will elaborate in detail what entails the specific offenses under this policy, and explain what consequences players will be subject to should they be found to be in breach of this policy.

EX.1 Abuse of Game Mechanics
Offences that fall under this category entail any acts that aim use the features or limitations of the intended game mechanics of Face of Mankind for illegitimate purposes. This is not the same as the exploitation of bugs, which entails using mistakes in programming for one's benefit or malicious purposes. As it is not always clear what sort of actions will be considered abusive or legitimate use of game mechanics, we will generally take gentler measures to correct the offender's actions by educating them about the offence first. However, we reserve all rights to take harsher actions upon subsequent offences of this type.

If any players are found to have violated this rule, we reserve the rights to
issue the following account penalties:
  • issue an ingame verbal warning through the chat or mail systems;
  • issue an official warning which will be recorded against his account permanently;
  • and/or issue account suspensions based on the severity of the offense, or if the individual has repeatedly violated our rules.
  • and/or issue account suspensions based on the severity of the offense, or if the individual has repeatedly violated our rules. In extreme cases, we will consider permanently closing an account. Extreme cases include, but are not limited to; any exploit that has a severely detrimental effect on Face of Mankind's economy, cause a disruption in service, or result in the crashing of Face of Mankind's game and/or world servers.

EX.2 Exploitation of Bugs
Offences that fall under this category entails any acts that aim to use programming errors in Face of Mankind, also known as 'bugs', for illegitimate purposes. Although our the Face of Mankind Development Team works tirelessly in finding and resolving bugs, it is impossible for all such bugs to be removed with only a small team of professionals. This is particularly so when new features or worlds are added to Face of Mankind, in which case the chances of bugs being found rises considerably. If you come across any bugs, we urge you to report them immediately so that our Development Team can work to resolve the problem with immediate haste.

While some of these bugs are minor and do nothing to affect gameplay at all, there may be some that arise once in a while that do, and can be abused for the purpose of giving an unfair advantage to individuals, or to affect access to the game service. We consider the violation of this rule to be extremely serious in nature as it has severe potential for harm towards the game or other players, and the penalties we issue will commensurate with this severity.

If we have determined that a player has indeed violated this rule, we will consider the following points in deciding the appropriate account penalty to be issued:
  • the act is performed with clear intent;
  • the act is performed with malicious intentions;
  • the act is performed on multiple occasions;
  • and/or efforts are made to conceal the use of such an exploit.
If any players are found to have violated this rule, we reserve the rights to issue the following account penalties:
  • issue an ingame verbal warning through the chat or mail systems;
  • issue an official warning which will be recorded against his account permanently;

EX.3 Manipulation of Data Stream and Data Mining
Offences that fall under this category entails any act that involves either the altering of any information that flows between the Face of Mankind servers and the offender's computer (Manipulation of Data Stream), or the extraction of any information that is not meant to be disclosed to the general public from the information that flows between the Face of Mankind servers and the offender's computer (Data Mining). The alteration and/or mining of both incoming and outgoing information will be considered as contravention of this clause. We will not take into account how much a player has altered the information, and will treat even the most minor alterations the same as the most severe. We will also not permit packet sniffing of any kind, regardless of the reason, and will issue account penalties as if the data stream has been altered as well.

Due to the extremely severe nature of this offence which will almost always result in an unfair advantage for the offender, account suspensions will always be given out for the violation of this clause. If any players are found to have violated this rule, we reserve the rights to issue the following account penalties:
  • Permanent account closure.
  • Possible legal actions.

EX.4 Modification of Internal Files
Offences that fall under this category entails any act that involves the modification of any of Face of Mankind's files installed on your computer. This clause specifically addresses cases of the modification of internal files for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage over other players, such as editing map files or dynamic link libraries. Nevertheless Face of Mankind reserves all rights to take action for any sort of file modification at all, even if it does not result in an unfair advantage for the offender.

If any players are found to have violated this rule, we reserve the rights to issue the following account penalties:
  • Permanent account closure.

EX.5 Use of Unapproved Third Party Software
Offences that fall under this category entails any act that involves the use of any files or programs that are not part of the officially sanctioned Face of Mankind software for the purpose of gaining an advantage in Face of Mankind. These programs may be used in ways that violate the other clauses above, such as increasing one's movement speed beyond what is normally possible through the game mechanics. Another reason not to use such programs is the fact that such programs may compromise a player's account integrity and/or personal privacy through methods such as trojan horses. We will issue account penalties here based

If any players are found to have violated this rule, we reserve the rights to issue the following account penalties:

  • Permanent account closure.

IMPORTANT
Repeatedly violating any of our policies, or the End User License Agreement, inclusive of but not limited to the above categories, will almost always result in a temporary account suspension. There may be situations where a player may contravene more than one category with a single offence. In such situations, we will always judge the offence based on the most severe category contravened. We also reserve the right to take actions beyond what is prescribed here taking into account the severity of the offence, and how many past offences have been recorded against the individual in question.

In-Game Help Chat

There is an in-game chat in which you can provide assistance to, or receive assistance from other players in the game. This chat is moderated by our Game Masters as well as a group of community volunteers, who can apply temporary mutes in this specific channel.

This chat exists explicitly for giving and receiving help. Using it for other purposes will most likely result in a temporary mute from using the channel, so that those who are utilizing it for help may have their messages seen and responded to.

Repeat offenses will result in a permanent removal of your access to the channel, pending appeal on our official support system.
